The Cenacle

The Cenacle (from the Latin cenaculum, “dining room”), also known as the Upper Room (from the Koine Greek anagaion and hyperōion, both meaning “upper room”), is a room in Mount Zion in Jerusalem, just outside the Old City walls, traditionally held to be the site of the Last Supper, the final meal that, in the Gospel accounts, Jesus held with the apostles.

According to the Christian Bible, the Cenacle was a place where the apostles continued to gather after the Last Supper, and it was also the site where the Holy Spirit alighted upon the twelve apostles on Pentecost, with Matthias having been “numbered with the eleven apostles” to replace Judas (Acts 1:25).

The site is administered by the Israeli authorities and is part of a building holding what is known as “David’s Tomb” on its ground floor.

An ecclesiastical province is a fundamental form of jurisdiction in Christian churches. It includes churches of Western and Eastern Christianity with traditional hierarchical structures. An ecclesiastical province consists of several dioceses (or eparchies), one of which is the archdiocese (or archeparchy). A Superintendent bishop is the head of it and has ecclesiastical jurisdiction over all other bishops of the province.

The Metropolitan Archbishop Eric Michel oversees the provinces of America, Africa, and South America.

We always seek the community’s support to advance our Apostolic Devotion beyond what we can imagine. Does that sound like you? Volunteer today and be a part of change. Contact us at ofs@ericmichelministries.org

The Cenacle prayer group of Eric Michel Ministries International, The Most Holy Rosary Ministry, is a small Catholic faith-sharing community that gathers regularly to pray, often inspired by the “Upper Room” (Cenacle) where the Apostles and Mary gathered in prayer. Typically associated with the Marian Movement of Priests or devotion to the Divine Mercy, they focus on the Rosary, the Eucharist, and acts of reparation.

Focus on Mary and the Holy Spirit: Members gather “with Mary” to pray for a second Pentecost and for the triumph of her Immaculate Heart.

Structure: Common elements include invoking the Holy Spirit, reciting the Rosary, praying for the Holy Father, and reading/meditating on spiritual messages, such as those in the book “To the Priests, Our Lady’s Beloved Sons”.

Fraternity: They serve as small communities of faith, fostering, sharing, and offering mutual support.

Purpose: The focus is on offering prayer and sometimes fasting (e.g., in Cenacles of Life for the end of the culture of death) to bring about spiritual renewal and conversion.

These groups can meet in person or virtually and are often seen as a way to renew the Church from within through devoted, simple, and united prayer

Typical Meeting Structure

Most cenacle meetings last between 30 and 90 minutes and follow a simple format:

  1. Invocation: Calling upon the Holy Spirit to guide the group.
  2. The Rosary: Recitation of five or more decades, often with specific meditations.
  3. Spiritual Reading: Meditating on a specific text (e.g., Fr. Gobbi’s “Blue Book,” the Bible, or St. Faustina’s Diary).
  4. Consecration: A prayer of entrustment to Jesus or Mary.
  5. EMMI Fraternity of the Most Holy Rosary: A time for sharing faith, supporting one another, and communal bonding.
  6. Virtual Options: virtual cenacles that meet via Zoom.
  • Marian Movement of Priests (MMP): Founded by Fr. Stefano Gobbi. The MMP’s mission of prayer for priests and consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
  • Divine Mercy Cenacles: Guided by the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy, these focus on the Diary of St. Faustina and works of mercy.
