  • The North American Martyrs (Canadian Martyrs)
  • These eight Jesuits were canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1930:
  • St. Jean de Brébeuf (1593–1649): Jesuit missionary to the Hurons, martyred in Ontario.
  • St. Isaac Jogues (1602–1646): Jesuit missionary, martyred in New York State.
  • St. Noël Chabanel (1613–1649): Jesuit missionary, martyred in Ontario.
  • St. Antoine Daniel (1601–1648): Jesuit missionary, martyred in Ontario.
  • St. Charles Garnier (1605–1649): Jesuit missionary, martyred in Ontario.
  • St. Gabriel Lallemant (1610–1649): Jesuit missionary, martyred in Ontario.
  • St. René Goupil (1607–1642): Jesuit lay missionary, martyred in New York State.
  • St. Jean de Lalande (1620–1646): Jesuit lay missionary, martyred in New York State.

Other Saints and Missionaries of New France

  • St. Kateri Tekakwitha (1656–1680): Known as the “Lily of the Mohawks,” she was born in modern-day New York, but moved to the Mission of St. François-Xavier near Montreal, where she died.
  • St. Marguerite Bourgeoys (1620–1700), founder of the Congregation of Notre Dame in Montreal, established the first school in Ville-Marie.
  • St. François de Laval (1623–1708): The first Bishop of Quebec, who structured the Church in Canada.
  • St. Marie of the Incarnation (1599–1672): An Ursuline nun who founded the Ursuline order in Quebec City, establishing the first school for girls.
  • Marie-Catherine de Saint-Augustin (1632–1668): A French nun who worked at the Hôtel-Dieu in Quebec City.
  • Jeanne Mance (1606–1673): Co-founder of Montreal and founder of the Hôtel-Dieu hospital.
  • Marguerite d’Youville (1701–1771): Founder of the Sisters of Charity of Montreal (Grey Nuns)
