Altar’s Crucifix

Ten crucifixes hang on the manse walls, plus one on a stand: Saint Damien, Saint Francis cross (4).

I dismiss all crucifix pictures and other crosses; I wanted to say a word about the Altar crucifix.

  • The number 1 is the official Altar crucifix
  • The number 2 is the official portable Altar crucifix
  • In number 3, we have the votive station crucifix that I chose to be less beautiful than the altar crucifix; smaller and lighter, it could be used as an Altar crucifix because it has no indication or specification of the size, the material or the colour; just that the crucified Christ has to be on it

“117… Also on or close to the altar, there is to be a cross with a figure of Christ crucified. The candles and the cross adorned with a figure of Christ crucified may also be carried in the Entrance Procession…

“308. There is also to be a cross, with the figure of Christ crucified upon it, either on the altar or near it, where it is clearly visible to the assembled congregation. It is appropriate that such a cross, which calls to mind for the faithful the saving Passion of the Lord, remain near the altar even outside of liturgical celebrations.”

… If the only cross is on the altar, it should face the celebrant.

Do you recognize the funeral bouquet crucifix? After you put it on the wall (or, for the time being, in storage here), Marie’s room has a blue-gray cross second from the left.
