An array of organizations is nonprofit, including some political organizations, schools, business associations, churches, social clubs, and consumer cooperatives. Nonprofit entities may seek government approval for tax-exempt status, and some may also qualify for tax-deductible contributions. Still, an entity may need to secure tax-exempt status to incorporate as a nonprofit. Critical aspects of nonprofits include accountability, trustworthiness, honesty, and openness to everyone who has invested time, money, and faith in the organization. Nonprofit organizations are accountable to donors, founders, volunteers, program recipients, and the public. Theoretically, for a nonprofit seeking to finance operations through donations, public confidence is a factor in how much it can raise. Supposedly, the more nonprofits focus on their mission, the more public confidence they will have. This will result in more money for the organization.
